Throwing Stones Punishable By Death:
Israeli soldiers shot and critically wounded a 13-year-old Palestinian boy today.
The boy was shot in the Palestinian refugee town of Jenin as troops opened fire on a group of youths who the Israeli military said had been throwing stones.
Live bullets struck the boy in the head and stomach, Palestinian medical officials said.
Israeli soldiers were in the town pursuing Islamic Jihad militant Husam Jarradat, Palestinian witnesses told the Associated Press.
Israeli troops and Palestinian gunmen exchanged fire near the home of the man, and Palestinian sources said he had escaped from the area.
Jenin was the scene of fierce fighting in April 2002 when 58 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli army offensive.
Meanwhile today, Mahmoud al-Zahar, a leader of Hamas, said the Palestinian militant group will only renew a truce that expires at the end of the year if Israel halts attacks and frees Palestinian prisoners, according to Reuters.
Israel has released 900 Palestinians since the start of the ceasefire, but still has over 8,000 detainees, including hundreds arrested in recent raids on the West Bank, Reuters said.

Note to self, don't throw rocks at israeli tanks.
H, what would drive Israeli military members to feel they needed to open fire on rock throwers?
LOL
second note to self, If I find my self starving in New Orleans due to my country failing (for whatever reason) to get me any help
do not break into walmart and steal food as this could also get me shot
G:
I can not think of a single legitimate reason G , this is kids throwing rocks
they cant even claim that he was a terrorists or anything
maybe the point should be do not question authority or they will kill you
now rinse and repeat
"Its great to be free.."
I can't see the troops doing this on purpose. I would like to give them the benifit of the doubt. I think people are too quick to judge wrong doings by soldiers in combat situations. I don't think we can grasp the concept of being in such a stressful situation with our lives on the line.
I do think it is terrible that this kid was killed, but I feel that with only the information in the posted article there is no way to really know what happened. G and H, you guys usually seem pretty reasonable, I dont think that witholding jusgment until more facts are known is unreasonable. H, if i recall correctly, i think it was you who were defending Sadam's being condemed by many based only on information from the media.
all this said, these kids need to go inside when the army rolls into town.
NYC
I agree , i wouldnt go as far as to say the troops 'wouldnt' do this on purpose
abhu graab and the recent taliban burning come to mind
but the essence of you point is respected and agreed with
I am reporting this as it appeared in the press , and you know i highlight 'stories' that show the other side of the argument
I do not by defintion accept or agree with everything that i post
I doubt we will ever find out th truth on this one
but please accept , that i have not just assumed it is true / or not true
i am just repeating the report as is
the one thing i would ask you to consider though NYC
of course i am in HUGE hypothetical lad here
but lets assume
that the tanks are mexican and they are on the streets of new york , looking for your brother or sister or whatever
i somehow doubt that the US kids would stay inside
the debate is complex i accept that , but there really is no denying that under my old favourite "international law" the land they kids are on belongs to them
and therefore the Israeli army is a foriegn force
I agree that they 'should' stay inside
but i somehow doubt many kids from any country in such a situation would actually do so
